AAPI Heritage Month Brand Spotlight: Tatcha

In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I’ll be highlighting a few of my favorite AAPI-founded beauty brands to support. You can view my words on Cocokind here, Tower 28 here, and Then I Met You here, but today’s all about Tatcha! Tatcha was founded by Vicky Tsai after studying the beauty rituals of geisha and the ingredients found in traditional Japanese cosmetics, such as rice and green tea. It’s very rare for me to have an all-time holy grail, especially multiple from the same brand, but Tatcha’s done it. Here are my favorites:

Original Aburatorigami Blotting Sheets

Of course I have to start this round-up with the hero product that launched Tatcha into the stratosphere: their oil blotting papers. They follow through on their purpose, but remain simple, which I love in a beauty product. They remove excess oil without making skin dry or cakey (like a powder would) and don’t take away any glow due to the 23-karat gold in the super-thin sheets.

Violet-C Radiance Mask

I’ve purchased this multiple times due to its effects on my acne + hyperpigmentation-prone skin. Every time I use it, I wake up the next morning thinking, “Why does my skin look so good?” It contains clay and gentle acids to really reset oiliness and clogged skin. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s the most gorgeous purple color and makes me happy to see myself in the mirror with it on.

Luminous Dewy Skin Mist

This is another re-purchased item. Anytime I overdo exfoliation or acids, my skin craves this. It’s hydrating, replenishing, and repairing. My only complaint is the price tag means I can't afford to bathe my skin in it daily!

Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm

I have no idea how more people don’t talk about this. It has a borderline hedonistically thick texture and contains flecks of gold that melt into the lips, leaving them with a glowy and hydrated look. Put a juicy layer on overnight and your lips are plush in the morning. What more could you ask for?! I’m currently on my second jar.

Silk Canvas Primer

And, finally, my last Tatcha favorite (told you they have a lot of hits!) This is an honorable mention from my mother, who regularly texts me to say that she needs a re-up because she truly can’t be without it. It fills in pores and perfectly preps for makeup to go on top. Pro tip: if you go through this as fast as my mom, QVC has the best deal—two for $86 (a $108 value!)
