Ideas for When You're Bored of Your Hair, but Don't Want to Cut It Off

  1. GET BANGS

Your friends will tell you not to. Your mom will show you pictures of the bad bangs you had earlier in life. Your ex-boyfriend will think it’s because you’re having an existential crisis over your ended relationship. Your coworkers will threaten to never speak to you again. Bangs are not even a controversial topic--it’s a downright no-no to most. For me, I’ve cut bangs every couple of years after being bored of my navel-length hair but not being *~wild~* enough to go for an overall cut. There are so many fun bang styles to experiment with! Do you want to be Alexa Chung or Zooey Deschanel? Do you want them to be blunt and bold or wispy and carefree? You have options. Hair grows back. Yada yada. Just do it.

  2. ADOPT A NEW ROUTINE

Is your hair dry? Try a new hair mask. Is your hair flat? Try a volumizing product. Is your hair buckling under the weight of scalp build up? Try a new shampoo or scalp treatment. New products can give you small changes that can make you fall in love with your hair. This applies to accessories as well. In the past, buying a new comb or brush and committing myself to use it has changed my mindset and added a little extra spice to my routine. I’m in a bit of a rut now and I’ve been really interested in trying the Act+Acre Scalp Detox because I’ve noticed my hair getting greasier faster. Any thoughts?

  3. GET A TRIM

If you look in the mirror and are automatically offended and disgusted by the fact your hair has betrayed you and become frazzled at the ends, do yourself a favor and call your hairdresser. You can get a dusting, where just the very ends are snipped off, or an actual cut if your split ends have traveled up the hair shaft. I got four inches cut off a few months ago and it felt SO GOOD that I can’t wait to do it again.

  4. BRING OUT NATURAL TONES WITH HENNA

Why is henna not talked about more?! It’s natural, easily accessible at Whole Foods, actually nourishes your hair, and can refresh your look quickly. There’s full-on dye to completely change your color or cassia, which is uncolored henna that brings out natural highlights. Of course, hair color of any kind can be used, but henna is an ancient and “clean” way to go about it.
