This is My First Post and I'm Already Taking a Hiatus

To describe myself very quickly, I’d tell you that my name is Micah and that my life revolves around beauty. I devote more hours than I probably should to learning about products, brands, ingredients, routines people have; I love all of it. My eyesight continually gets worse because of all the screen time it takes to do this research. Anyways, this is only my first post and it’s already going to be me talking about taking a beauty-buying hiatus. I am currently a twenty-year-old college student and if you know anything about college students, it’s that they’re usually not rolling in money. While I do work two part-time jobs, this break from buying is not about money (or the lack thereof). This is about the fact that my college dorm came with a wardrobe, yet I had to buy a separate clothing rack from IKEA to put my clothes on so my wardrobe could become a beauty closet. Products cover the shelves of the closet, pour over the workspace of my desk, are packed in a plastic storage caddy that you see as soon as you walk into my door, and line the ledge of my shower that I share with my suite mate (sorry, Morgan!!!). Needless to say, products take over my life and I have decided that I need some room to breathe.

While you may be wondering how a person who is barely able to vote has amassed all of these various lotions and potions, let me surprise you even more by saying that this isn’t the first time I’ve restricted myself when it comes to my buying habits. During my first year of college, I didn’t buy an ounce of makeup for months. I did this to test my willpower. I told myself that I couldn’t buy anything until Cyber Monday, which was when Glossier would be having a 20% off sale. The SECOND Cyber Monday started, I was on glossier.com succumbing to my compulsions that I needed these shiny new things in my hands. After I received the products, I felt refreshed in my beauty space and started to look at brands and products differently. I learned that I didn’t need to go to Ulta every week and head to the drugstore side to buy something I wasn’t absolutely in love with and would, ultimately, be disappointed in.

This time around, I’m not giving myself a time limit; I’m going to use up the things I have and then buy new products. I’m hoping to feel the same refreshment as before while also giving the products I do have an actual chance to work and impress me. The challenge begins right after Black Friday because I know myself well enough to know I can’t resist the beauty dealz. Check back to see the stuff on my buying list for the month.

As far as my first post goes, nice meeting you. Make a Disqus account and say, “Hi!!!” I hope you’ll come back again to read about my thoughts on all things beauty.
